Job summary

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia seeks an Engineering Operations Team Leader in Taif to oversee maintenance and planning for the Typhoon fleet. You will coordinate with MOF, ESS, and flight operations to ensure timely, compliant maintenance and data-driven decisions.

You will lead daily briefs, manage aircrew queries, and deliver targeted training to Saudi colleagues while upholding safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Extensive post-qualification practical maintenance experience on operational flying aircraft.
  • Working knowledge of ESS.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Saudi or expatriate candidate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership prior to starting.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Aircraft Generation Flight (AGF) maintenance changes as requested by the customer.
  • Support planning of aircraft maintenance activities with Part M guidance and daily direction documentation.
  • Compile and maintain aircraft statistics for Flying Hours, Typhoon usage and related metrics.
  • Produce and present the daily maintenance brief to the Sqn Cmdr and pilots at the Met Brief.
  • Manage aircrew Technical Queries (TQ) with MOF and TSC, ensuring prompt replies from Design Organisation.
  • Assist AMO rectification activities by fault diagnosis and data analysis, presenting findings to pilots.
  • Deliver technical briefs on aircraft systems and maintenance issues to Sqn Cmdr, trainees and instructors.
  • Undertake aircraft-related projects as directed by the Sqn Cmdr and Maintenance Support Team Leader.

Job Title: Engineering Operations Team Leader

JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

Liaising with the MOF, Rectification Control and Line Control, ensure that planned maintenance activities are prioritized to facilitate the flying program, contributing to the achievement of contract performance targets.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Task Aircraft Generation Flight (AGF) maintainers, via MOF schedulers and controllers, to carry out changes to the configuration or role of Sqn aircraft as and when requested by the customer.
  • Support the planning of aircraft maintenance activities with the use of the Part M fleet daily direction documentation, specific responsibilities include the day-to-day assurance that aircraft allocated by the MOF meet the Part M direction, support to strategic maintenance planning and attending scheduled flying planning reviews.
  • Compile and maintain aircraft statistics for Flying Hours, TS Typhoon usage including solo role, ground technical aborts, sorties, conversion qualification training for presentation, where required, to operations managers, fleet and the customer.
  • Produce and present the daily maintenance brief, informed by thorough research of all aircraft reported faults and associated maintenance activities, and presentations to the Sqn Cmdr and pilots at the morning Met Brief.
  • Manage and control the aircrew Technical Queries (TQ) in conjunction with the Forward Operations Teamcenter holder(s) and the TSC, ensuring that all aircrew-generated TQ are monitored and answered promptly by the Design Organisation, and replies communicated to TQ originators.
  • Support the AMO’s rectification activities by aiding with fault diagnosis, through pilot debrief and the investigation and analysis of maintenance data records through ESS; present these findings to the pilots in the daily MET briefs and when requested brief the TSC relevant department as well as the Typhoon Operations Team Leads and Manager.
  • Present technical briefs on aircraft systems and maintenance operations issues, to the Sqn Cdr, trainee and instructor pilots when requested.
  • Undertake aircraft related projects tasked by the Sqn Cmdr – when agreed with the Maintenance Support Team Leader – this may include supporting the customer with Unit Inquiries.
  • Inform aircrew of aircraft serviceability states, flying requirements and limitations, and the locations and forecasts for completion of aircraft maintenance.
  • Ensure that the daily and weekly flying programmes are entered on the Typhoon Engineering Support System (ESS).
  • Ensure that the Flight Line Controller is fully aware of the following:
    • Crew walk times.
    • Take-off / Landing times.
    • Any requirements for land away checks.
    • Any other special requirements (for example weather).
    • Crew-in faults / Hit Team Red balls.
    • End of Runway (EOR) arrangements.
    • Any emergency states.
  • Ensure that AGF Rectification Control and Line Control are immediately informed of any flying programme changes.
  • Support pilots when signing out aircraft on ESS, providing support as required.
  • Act as an information interface, relaying information between Ops and AGF via MOF Control.
  • Ensure contact with MOF and AGF personnel involved in the recovery of Aircraft for the flying program and brief any updates to the Sqn Duty Officer(s) and Sqn Cmdr where required.
  • Formulate and deliver a training plan to designated Saudi colleagues, to prepare them to perform Eng Ops Controller’s duties on future Typhoon Sqns.
  • Ensure that all personnel engaged in activities within this area of responsibility follow the correct operations practices, observe safety precautions and, as far as is reasonably practicable, are not exposed to any unnecessary / uncontrolled risk.
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Essential:
  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA,
  • Have extensive post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training OR substantial exposure on typhoon aircraft.
  • A working knowledge of Engineering Support System (ESS).
  • Fluent in English.
  • The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level, prior to starting the new role or commencing employment in KSA. SCE membership must be maintained throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable:
  • Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment specific training if required
  • A good understanding of MS Office suite, particularly MS Excel, MS Word and MS Power Point.
  • Incorporated or Technician Engineer with an appropriate professional institute such as Royal Aeronautical Society or Institute of Engineering & Technology.
