Job summary

ISM is seeking a Design & Development Engineer-ISM in Jeddah to drive new designs from concept to validated prototypes. You will manage design revisions, verifications, and maintain CAD servers, licenses and data integrity.

The role requires 3+ years in mechanical design with SolidWorks/AutoCAD experience, and fluency in English and Arabic. You will oversee designers and help optimize production methods in a steel fabrication context.

Qualifications

• Educational background in mechanical engineering with technical college diploma/degree.
• Understanding of product development from concept to production.
• Proficiency in CAD software and manufacturing/assembly design.
• Written and spoken English and Arabic.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

• New designs – from concept to validating prototypes
• Design revisions, validation and verification
• Maintaining all design resources such as but not limited to CAD servers, S/W licenses, daily data back-ups, technical information, standards etc.
• Design process optimization and automation
• Training and development of design team

Key Accountabilities

• Establish and review design procedures & algorithms
• Tracking and forecasting design trends to incorporate in to ZI products and marketing plans
• Keeping up to date with relevant international standards, scientific and technical developments
• Design, create and test new products to determine their user-friendliness and marketability prior to official launch.
• Design and create test jigs, simulators for products and prototype testing.
• Simulate performance of new designs using simulation software, followed by real-life testing
• Ensuring that all design work is completed to the highest standard.
• Oversee designers and extend to development of production methods as well as trouble shoot production issues.
• Initiate design changes for cost effectiveness and product consistency
• Generating ideas for new products and researching feasibility recording and analyzing data
• Evaluate the feasibility of design concepts to meet functional/customer needs
• Develop timelines and cost estimates for product development tasks and appraise Operations Manager of performance against plan
• Evaluate, document, and implement potential design and process changes to improve product performance, manufacturability, safety and cost
• Review technical submittals such as but not limited to customer drawings, specifications and budgetary costs
• Review revised and new BOQ’s for correctness before releasing for procurement and production planning
  

Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude

Educational Qualifications and Certifications: Technical College-Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Knowledge: Understanding of fundamental engineering concepts and principles related to the specific field of design and development (e.g., mechanical, electrical, software) andKnowledge of the entire product development process from conceptualization and design to testing, production, and implementation.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software andDesign for Manufacturing and assembly

Language Skills: Written & spoken knowledge of the English & Arabic languages

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in similar position or head of mechanical design section in steel fabrication unit.
Minimum of 3 to 4 years hands-on exposure involving designing SAE’s, mufflers and tanks
Hands-on exposure to Solid works or Auto-desk platform would be an added advantage
