Job summary

Claranet Portugal is seeking a hands-on Sysadmin/Engineer for HGW projects in Lisbon. You will diagnose Linux-based Home Gateway devices, analyze network issues, and automate tests with Python or Bash.

You will work in a hybrid Lisbon environment, share knowledge across teams, and contribute to documentation while resolving root causes with solid TCP/IP and Wi-Fi expertise. The role offers training and clear growth within a dynamic telecoms setting.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems, including debugging, system configuration, troubleshooting, and scripting.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts and related services such as DNS, DHCP, routing, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience using network diagnostic and analysis tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Performing advanced troubleshooting of incidents affecting Linux-based Home Gateway Devices (HGWs), including fixed access networks, Wi-Fi connectivity, and IP services.
• Conducting low-level analysis in Linux environments, including shell operations, process management, memory usage, network diagnostics, and configuration review to identify root causes of issues.
• Investigating Wi-Fi-related problems such as coverage, interference, channel utilization, band steering, and performance degradation using metrics, packet captures, and diagnostic tools.
• Reproducing customer-reported issues in laboratory environments and characterizing them through technical evidence, including logs, network captures, and performance metrics.
• Developing and maintaining automation scripts (Python, Bash, or similar) to streamline testing, evidence collection, log analysis, and operational activities.
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including processes, analyses, workarounds, and recommendations, ensuring knowledge sharing and traceability across teams.

Your responsibilities include:

• Performing advanced troubleshooting of incidents affecting Linux-based Home Gateway Devices (HGWs), including fixed access networks, Wi‑Fi connectivity, and IP services.
• Conducting low-level analysis in Linux environments, including shell operations, process management, memory usage, network diagnostics, and configuration review to identify root causes of issues.
• Investigating Wi‑Fi‑related problems such as coverage, interference, channel utilization, band steering, and performance degradation using metrics, packet captures, and diagnostic tools.

You must have:

• Strong hands‑on experience with Linux systems, including debugging, system configuration, troubleshooting, and scripting (mandatory requirement).
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts and related services such as DNS, DHCP, routing, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience using network diagnostic and analysis tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis in complex technical environments.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

We value:

• Knowledge of Wi‑Fi technologies, including 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks and IEEE 802.11 standards.
• Experience with fixed access technologies such as GPON and DOCSIS.
• Scripting and programming skills, particularly in Python and Bash.
• Familiarity with OpenWRT and embedded Linux environments.
• Experience working in telecommunications, networking, or broadband service environments.
