Job summary

Adentis Portugal is seeking a hands-on software engineer and AI advocate responsible for building modern applications, maintaining critical legacy systems, and leveraging AI coding agents daily to accelerate development, documentation, and modernization.

The role spans modern and legacy technologies from C#/.NET to COBOL, Delphi, PowerBuilder, FoxPro and WinDev, with mentorship of engineers, CI/CD participation, and a focus on clean, SOLID code and AI-assisted practices.

Qualifications

• AI advocacy and ability to demonstrate AI coding agents in practice.
• 4–6 years of professional software development experience.
• Willingness to work with legacy technologies (COBOL, Delphi, PowerBuilder, FoxPro, WinDev).
• Fluent English; French or Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• AI Advocacy: lead by example using AI coding agents and run workshops to upskill the team.
• Modern & Legacy Systems Development: build features across C#/.NET and legacy tech.
• Modernization & Architecture: plan migrations to modern architectures while preserving business logic.

Role Overview: A hands-on software engineer and AI advocate responsible for building modern applications, maintaining critical legacy systems, and leveraging AI coding agents daily to accelerate development, documentation, and modernization.

Key Responsibilities:

• AI Advocacy: Lead by example using AI coding agents (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code), configure agent setups (rules, prompt libraries), and run demos/workshops to upskill the team.
• Modern & Legacy Systems Development: Develop and maintain features across a full landscape ranging from modern C# / .NET to legacy technologies (COBOL, Delphi, PowerBuilder, FoxPro, WinDev).
• Modernization & Architecture: Plan and execute migrations from legacy systems to modern architectures, ensuring business logic continuity and building a shared knowledge base.
• Quality & Collaboration: Write clean, SOLID code, participate in code reviews, work with CI/CD pipelines, and mentor engineers in AI-assisted practices.

Tech Stack & Core Requirements:

• Experience: 4 to 6 years of professional software development experience.
• AI Tooling: Proven day-to-day experience with AI coding agents (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and building agentic workflows/MCP servers.
• Legacy Openness: Genuine willingness and openness to work with legacy technologies (COBOL, Delphi, PowerBuilder, FoxPro, WinDev; prior experience is a plus, not mandatory).
• Databases & Tools: Relational databases and SQL, automated testing, Git, CI/CD, and Agile practices.
• Languages: Fluent English (mandatory); French or Spanish is a plus.
