Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Software Engineer (Edge – Devices & Mobile) in a fully remote setup to design a cross-platform Rust peer runtime for Windows, Android, and Linux, with macOS on the roadmap. You’ll own critical infrastructure, focus on security, performance, and reliability, and collaborate with global teams.

You will work on integrating native networking, managing processes, and expanding to new workloads while upholding strict safety boundaries for untrusted content.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Rust experience in production-grade software.
• Experience deploying cross-platform Rust apps on Windows and Android.
• Strong knowledge of OS internals, process management, and security.
• Hands-on FFI with C/C++ and native OS APIs (JNI/NDK, Win32, POSIX).
• Networking expertise: TCP, TLS, HTTP, and traffic analysis.
• Async networking in Rust using Tokio/Tonic.
• Reliability, observability, and production operations focus.
• Excellent written English and remote collaboration in distributed teams.
• Familiarity with gRPC, Protobuf, mTLS, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a cross-platform Rust peer runtime for Windows, Android, Linux, and future macOS support.
• Manage process lifecycles, background execution, networking, and updates across diverse hardware.
• Lead platform expansion to Android with NDK/JNI, handling foreground services and battery considerations.
• Integrate native networking tech (Cronet, C++) with Rust libraries.
• Work with FFI to ensure safe memory management and cross-language interoperability.
• Collect and analyze device signals (TCP/TLS/HTTP) to improve realism and collaboration with other teams.
• Develop device-level observability, metrics, and remote fleet health monitoring.
• Expand capabilities to support more workloads while maintaining security boundaries.
• Participate in on-call rotations, investigate incidents, and push improvements to reliability and deployment processes.
• Contribute to architecture proposals, design reviews, and engineering standards for cross-platform Rust.
