Job summary

Jobgether, on behalf of a partner company, seeks a Software Engineer (Edge - Networking & Fleet) based in Portugal to build scalable edge networking infrastructure powering a residential device network.

You will own the scheduling platform, fleet management, and proxy services across Windows, Android, and Linux, collaborating with senior engineers in a remote-first, globally distributed environment. This role offers meaningful ownership of critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of professional Rust experience, including end-to-end production services.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale (schedulers, control planes, stateful services).
• Strong understanding of distributed-systems concepts like consistency, partitions, backpressure, and idempotency.
• Deep networking knowledge: TCP, TLS, HTTP, handshakes, and packet behavior.
• Practical experience with gRPC and long-lived connections across NAT and unreliable networks.
• Experience building or operating forward proxies, proxy gateways, or residential/ISP proxy infra.
• Understanding of IP reputation, session stickiness, proxy pool health, and traffic routing.
• Production operations experience: defining SLOs, observability, incident response, on-call participation.
• Cross-platform Rust development targeting Windows, Linux, and Android, including FFI boundaries.
• Strong written communication and collaboration in a distributed, remote-first team.

Responsibilities

• Scale the data plane by evolving the fetch scheduler to handle 50-100 million requests/day.
• Design and build the Fleet Manager control plane with adapters, inventory, health management, and rollout controls.
• Develop provider integrations to onboard new device sources via standardized workflows.
• Own and improve the CONNECT proxy gateway, edge session management, IP reputation, and request scheduling.
• Engineer secure networking between control services and residential peers using mTLS, gRPC, and long-polling.
• Address NAT challenges, bandwidth accounting, connection reliability, and resource contention.
• Define and maintain SLOs for availability, latency, and request success across Edge route.
• Build observability: metrics for peer availability, device drop-off, bandwidth, and provider performance.
• Implement blue/green deployments and safe software rollouts for control services and peers.
• Participate in on-call rotation, lead post-mortems, and translate findings into improvements.
• Produce design docs and recommendations for scheduling, fleet management, and failover strategies.
• Review designs and promote distributed-systems best practices.
