Job summary

AdvanceWorks is building a fast-growing SaaS platform and seeks a Staff Backend Software Engineer to shape technology choices and drive SaaS excellence.

You will stay close to the code, delivering high-quality .NET C# solutions, and mentor peers while shaping the architecture and reliability across services. The role includes leading technical decisions and fostering strong engineering culture. Hybrid work includes four days per month at the Lisbon office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 10+ years of experience with .NET C# and advanced command of the technology.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architectures and patterns.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming tools such as Kafka, Pulsar, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience scaling cloud applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Technical leadership experience (3+ years) mentoring engineers and leading initiatives.
• Ability to drive technical change across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to solve highly complex technical problems and anticipate risks.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality .NET C# code and serve as a reference for the team.
• Develop backend solutions with modern technologies (e.g., Kafka, ElasticSearch).
• Deliver working software consistently as part of a development team.
• Build deep knowledge of the codebase and domain.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure documentation of critical systems.
• Define SRE standards and contribute to incident response practices.
• Mentor and empower other engineers and raise the technical bar.
• Lead high-level technical decisions across teams and align with org goals.
• Diagnose root causes of complex bugs across systems and infrastructure.
• Implement fixes with automated regression tests.
• Contribute to the direction and vision for architectural improvements.
