Job summary

Siemens AG in Portugal is seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to manage and optimize our AWS environments, ensuring secure, scalable hosting for business-critical apps.

You will partner with infrastructure and software teams to implement IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), automate CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/Jenkins), and drive cost and performance improvements across multiple environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field with 5+ years of AWS admin/operating experience.
• Deep knowledge of AWS services, architectures, and optimization techniques.
• Solid understanding of networking: HTTP, TLS, DNS, load balancing, routing, delivery concepts.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices, automating build/release/deployments.
• IaC with CloudFormation/ Terraform to provision cloud resources.

TheGBS Digital Solutions (DS) Enterprise Architecture team, part of Governance, Cybersecurity & Integration (GCI), sets the architecture direction for GBS. We enable, facilitate and govern, working with the business lines and delivery teams rather than apart from them. Our goal is simple: decide faster, and apply the right technology to each use case.

What role will you play?

• Ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our cloud infrastructure and application hosting environments.
• Working closely with both infrastructure and application development teams, you will contribute to the successful delivery and operation of business-critical solutions by managing and optimizing our AWS-based ecosystem.
• This role is responsible for setting up and managing AWS cloud environments while ensuring the secure and scalable hosting of applications. It includes optimizing cloud resource utilization across the department, with a strong focus on cost management and effective resource organization.
• The position also involves implementing and maintaining policies that guarantee secure and seamless access to cloud services, supporting account provisioning when required, and ensuring data integrity and robust access controls.
• Additionally, the role encompasses monitoring core infrastructure services, proactively investigating and resolving system outages, performance bottlenecks, and deployment failures.
• It is responsible for managing software build and release processes across multiple environments using tools such as GitLab, as well as administering security scanning and auditing activities for networks, hosts, security groups, and related services.
• As part of your mission, you will collaborate closely with application development teams to continuously improve platform stability, security, and performance, ensuring that development, testing, and production environments remain robust, compliant, and aligned with business needs.
• Through your expertise in cloud operations and DevOps practices, you will help drive operational excellence, scalability, and innovation across the organization.

What do you bring?

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, combined with at least 5 years of hands-on experience administering and operating AWS environments;
• Strong expertise in AWS services, cloud architecture best practices, and optimization strategies, with the ability to design, manage, and continuously improve scalable cloud solutions;
• Solid understanding of web and network technologies, including HTTP, SSL/TLS, DNS, load balancing, routing, and application delivery concepts;
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices, leveraging tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Maven, or equivalent solutions to automate build, release, and deployment processes;
• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code approaches and tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources efficiently;
• Strong knowledge of cloud security principles, including IAM administration, access governance, firewall configuration, vulnerability management, security auditing, and compliance with industry standards;
• Experience designing and implementing AWS networking components such as VPCs, subnets, security groups, route tables, VPNs, and connectivity solutions;
• Familiarity with highly available and resilient cloud architectures, including Application Load Balancers, API Gateways, Auto Scaling Groups, and disaster recovery concepts;
• Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, reliability, and operational excellence;
• Knowledge of AWS storage and database services, including cost optimization techniques for EBS, S3, EFS, and Glacier, as well as experience with Amazon RDS and DynamoDB;
• Experience working with modern cloud-native architectures, including serverless solutions based on AWS Lambda and event-driven application design;
• Understanding of software deployment strategies such as blue/green, canary, and rolling deployments, ensuring safe and efficient releases across multiple environments;
• Proficiency in scripting and automation, preferably with Python, to streamline operational activities and infrastructure management;
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and international teams;
• Experience working within Agile and Scrum environments, collaborating closely with development teams and business stakeholders;
• AWS certifications, particularly AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, will be considered a strong advantage.

Preferred:

• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
• Exposure to DevOps best practices and cloud-native application development.
• UI/UX design experience or sensitivity to front-end user experience best practices.
