Job summary

Bekaert is seeking a highly technical, business-oriented Technical Product Owner / Lead Engineer to lead the evolution of our engineering calculation software ecosystem in Lisbon. You will own the end-to-end journey, transforming legacy Excel-based tools into a modern web-based platform and collaborate with engineering, IT, and business stakeholders to define the roadmap and deliverables.

Purpose and Mission

We are looking for a highly technical and business-oriented Technical Product Owner / Lead Engineer to lead the evolution of our engineering calculation software ecosystem.

In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of Bekaert's engineering design tools, driving the transition from legacy Excel-based solutions to a modern, web-based NextGen calculation platform. Acting as the bridge between engineering, software development, and business stakeholders, you will define the product roadmap, steer development activities, validate engineering calculations, and contribute hands-on to software development.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

• Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Bekaert's engineering calculation tools.
• Define priorities, milestones, and release plans aligned with business objectives.
• Balance short-term operational support of existing tools with the long-term digital transformation strategy.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between Product, Engineering, IT, Commercial teams, and external partners.

Technical Leadership

• Translate structural engineering principles, design codes, and industry standards into software requirements and technical specifications.
• Review, validate, and govern engineering algorithms and calculation methodologies.
• Ensure traceability between design codes, engineering rules, and implemented software logic.
• Identify opportunities to leverage AI and advanced technologies within the engineering tools landscape.

Software Development & Architecture

• Contribute hands-on to the development and enhancement of software solutions using C#, .NET, and related technologies.
• Support modernization efforts, including migration from legacy Excel/VBA solutions to scalable web applications.
• Review code quality, maintainability, and performance across internal and external development teams.
• Drive best practices in software architecture, testing, and documentation.
• Lead and coordinate external development partners, freelancers, and engineering specialists.
• Gather feedback from internal and external users to continuously improve the product.
• Collaborate with mobile application and digital solution teams to ensure platform integration and consistency.
• Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Quality, Documentation & Support

• Define and maintain documentation standards for technical, validation, and user-facing materials.
• Ensure knowledge transfer and reduce dependency on single individuals.
• Support incident resolution and troubleshooting of critical business applications.
• Drive reporting and visualization capabilities through dashboards and analytics tools.

Previous Experience

Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Strong understanding ofstructural design principles, engineering standards (Eurocodes, ACI, or equivalent), and the translation of calculation models into software solutions.

Hands-on software development experience withC#, .NET, Python, and modern web application development.

Understanding ofcalculation engines, numerical methods, simulation tools, and rule-based systems.

Experience working at the intersection ofengineering and software development, with the ability to lead technical roadmaps and collaborate across cross-functional teams.

Strongproject management, stakeholder management, communication skills in English, and the ability to balance business, technical, and user requirements in an international environment.
