Job summary

Philip Morris International is seeking a Principal Solution Architect to lead architectural direction for the PMI US Direct landscape, focusing on Front-End, Digital Experience, and Commerce. Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or Technical Leadership roles within large-scale digital consumer ecosystems.
• Strong expertise in digital commerce architectures, including customer journeys, catalog management, promotions, pricing, cart, checkout, order orchestration, and integration with downstream fulfilment and customer systems.
• Deep understanding of modern frontend and digital experience architectures, including headless, composable, API-first, and cloud-native design patterns.
• Proven ability to lead architecture across a complex, multi-domain ecosystem, balancing local market needs with global platform strategy, reusable capabilities, and enterprise standards.
• Proven experience leading architecture for large-scale consumer-facing web and mobile platforms serving high-volume, business-critical digital channels.
• Experience designing and governing solutions across multiple products, teams, and domains while maintaining a coherent end-to-end architecture vision.
• Strong knowledge of system integration patterns, including event-driven architectures, APIs, microservices, and asynchronous communication models.
• Experience defining solution architectures that balance business objectives, technical constraints, operational excellence, security, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical and business stakeholders across multiple organisational levels and drive alignment on architectural decisions.
• Experience establishing and governing Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) including performance, scalability, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Owners and Delivery Managers to define product vision and guide teams toward delivering measurable customer value.
• Translate complex and evolving business requirements into robust, scalable e-commerce architectures, backed by modern frontend frameworks and CMS, with fast time to market.
• Own and evolve the application architecture to ensure reusability, scalability, maintainability, extensibility, and operational excellence.
• Identify and influence adjacent product roadmaps that benefit your vertical or enable added value.
• Assess the current system landscape, identify gaps, and propose forward-thinking architectural strategies.
• Drive PoC(s) by collaborating with Software Engineering to achieve target Architecture.
• Drive identification of Non-Functional and technical requirements.
• Shape initiatives with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and target architecture.
• Define and maintain architecture roadmaps, decision records, standards, designs, and artefacts for delivery teams.
• Identify improvement opportunities and advise Product Owners on roadmap evolution.
• Represent US Direct architectural interests across ecosystem and align with enterprise standards.
