Elastic in Portugal (Faro) is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead performance tuning for Elasticsearch. You will own architecture-to-production optimization initiatives, drive scalable improvements, and establish robust benchmarks across distributed systems.

You will mentor engineers, develop AI-assisted profiling techniques, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed performance thinking from feature inception.

Qualificações

• Experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of Java internals and concurrency.
• Experience with AI-assisted optimization and benchmarking.

Responsabilidades

• Own core performance initiatives from architecture to production, leading high-impact optimizations.
• Develop performance models and methodologies for complex distributed systems.
• Drive optimization to keep Elasticsearch performant, predictable, and scalable.
• Profile and analyze system behavior to identify bottlenecks across logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
• Collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking in new features.
• Drive automation by building AI-assisted optimization harnesses for profiling and benchmarking.
• Mentor and coach engineers to foster performance-focused development.
