Overstory is seeking an ML Engineering Manager to lead multiple cross-functional teams of engineers and data scientists. You will shape the technical direction, grow talent, and drive climate-focused ML initiatives. Your role emphasizes mentorship, scalable systems, and collaboration with product and design leaders.

You will work in a time zone-aware environment across Europe and North America, guiding teams without heavy hands-on coding but stepping in technically when needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building ML- or data-driven systems.
• 3+ years leading and managing ML or data-focused teams.
• Passionate about climate and technology's role in environmental challenges.
• Experience in a high-growth scale-up or startup environment.
• Product-minded with ability to demonstrate business impact through technology.
• Technical depth in ML, data systems, or applied ML to guide teams.
• Experience with Python-based ML or data workflows and collaboration with data scientists.
• Strong leadership with coaching mindset and ability to support engineers and data scientists at all levels.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Lifelong learning and staying current with evolving tech trends.

Responsibilities

• Enable ML and data teams to operate as productive, cross-functional units delivering ML-driven capabilities.
• Support teams working with satellite imagery and geospatial datasets; balance experimentation and improvement.
• Grow teams by attracting and hiring top Data/ML talent.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive culture where everyone can do their best work.
• Provide regular 1:1 coaching and feedback to help others thrive, grow, and reach aspirations.
• Partner with Product Managers to balance short- and long-term technical goals.
• Ensure technical approaches support future product and modelling needs.
• Collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering leaders on strategy and people.
• Evolve Data and ML practices to improve collaboration, delivery, and learning.
