Job summary

Overstory is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design and scale a world-class data platform for AI-powered vegetation analysis. You will own architecture, guide data flows, and ensure durability, traceability, and performance for massive satellite imagery and model data.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with data, ML, and product teams to deliver reliable and scalable pipelines that support customer decisions and reduce wildfire risk.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience designing and building production-grade data pipelines and systems.
• Experience thriving at the intersection of data engineering and distributed systems.
• Hands-on with Dagster or equivalent orchestration tooling in production.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve our orchestration layer with scalable patterns.
• Design and maintain production data pipelines for geospatial and temporal data.
• Lead system design across the data platform and define service boundaries.
• Drive a shift to service-oriented architecture and decoupled components.
• Build event-driven workflows and durable messaging patterns.
• Establish observability, testing, and data quality frameworks.
• Mentor engineers and set standards for data systems.
