Job summary

Locke Hotels in Portugal seeks a hands-on maintenance handyperson to service and repair apartments, ensuring they are guest-ready and well-maintained throughout guests’ stays. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll fix issues, paint, and look ahead to preventative maintenance with pride and care.

You will work a 40-hour week, with on-call duties on a rota and flexibility to operate across Locke locations.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer-facing role preferred.
• Practical knowledge of plumbing, gas or electrics; trade qualifications a plus.
• Basic spoken and written English required.
• Impeccable attention to detail and strong time management.
• Good decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Confidence to act quickly and take smart risks when needed.
• Familiarity with IT systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Service, repair, paint, and upkeep apartments with pride and care.
• Make sure apartments are ready for guests and stay in good condition.
• Carry out maintenance quickly and efficiently when needed.
• Anticipate future maintenance issues and resolve them proactively.
• Be on-call for maintenance needs, including out-of-hours on a rota.
• Support health and safety duties for the team.
• Manage building works and refurbishments; liaise with contractors.
• Collaborate with the team and work independently when required.
• Hand over maintenance updates to front desk for housekeeping alignment.
• Ensure uninterrupted service to guests and communicate calmly with guests.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll service, repair, paint, and upkeep apartments with pride and care.

• Making sure apartments are looking their best ready for guests’ arrivals
• Keeping apartments looking great and working smoothly throughout guests’ stays
• Carrying out maintenance quickly and efficiently when needed
• Looking ahead to possible future maintenance issues and proactively resolving them
• Being on-call for maintenance needs, including out-of-hours on a rota system
• Supporting management in staying on top of health and safety duties
• Managing new building works and projects, including supporting on refurbishments
• Liaising with and managing contractors
• Being happy working both on your own and as part of a team
• Being an active member of the team in meetings and development sessions
• Handing over thoroughly to front desk to make sure the housekeeping team is up-to-speed with maintenance developments
• Working closely with the team to ensure uninterrupted service to guests
• Communicating calmly with guests to resolve any issues

What you’ll need.

• Ideally experience in a customer-facing role
• Practical knowledge of plumbing, gas or electrics (trade qualifications a plus)

When and where

• You’ll work 40 hours, across five days per week
• We believe in working flexibly - this includes flexibility in work location, working days (including weekends and bank holidays in operations) and working hours. This may be ad hoc or permanent flexibility. Ask your recruiting manager or see our careers page for more information.
