Job summary

g2 Recruitment in Portugal is seeking a Freelance Lead Electrical Engineer with strong commissioning experience to support a high-profile data centre project. Start date November 2026.

Rate is negotiable. You will lead electrical activities across the full lifecycle, manage subcontractors and site teams, and oversee installation, energisation, commissioning, testing, and handover of critical electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Lead Electrical Engineer on data centre projects.
• Strong commissioning and startup experience within mission-critical environments.
• Experience working on recognised hyperscale or large-scale data centres.
• Knowledge of critical electrical infrastructure including MV/LV systems, UPS, switchgear, generators, and distribution systems.
• Exposure to CxA/commissioning authority processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering activities across the full data centre project lifecycle.
• Manage electrical subcontractors, vendors, and site teams throughout the project.
• Oversee installation, energisation, commissioning, testing, and handover of critical electrical systems.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.
• Ensure all electrical systems are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
• Support the development and execution of commissioning plans and procedures.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams during commissioning and handover phases.

Freelance Lead Electrical Engineer | Data Centres | Portugal There is No Visa Sponsorship for this role I'm working with a leading data centre contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer with strong commissioning experience to support the delivery of a high-profile data centre project. This role requires someone who has worked across the full project lifecycle, from installation and energisation through to commissioning, testing, and handover on recognised hyperscale or large-scale data centre projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead electrical engineering activities across the full data centre project lifecycle.
