Bloq.it is hiring an Embedded Systems Engineer to develop firmware for hardware products and to integrate high-level software with firmware. You will work across kernel to application layers, optimize performance, and ensure reliability in an IoT context.

The role emphasizes Yocto-based Linux distributions, driver development, OTA updates, and CI-driven testing. A strong background in RTOS, embedded Linux, and IoT protocols is essential, with remote-friendly collaboration and flexible hours.

We are in search of a dedicated Embedded Systems Engineer to join our innovative team as our new #bloqstar. In this role, you'll play a crucial role in the development of firmware for our hardware products and the integration of high-level software with the firmware. The ideal candidate will have experience in IoT and embedded systems, from microcontrollers to SoC (System-on-a-Chip), with a strong background in RTOS, bootloaders, driver development, and OTA implementation.

Fair warning: we're scaling fast and the data and reporting capabilities are scaling with us. You'll often need to pull from multiple systems and build the picture yourself before you can analyse it. If you need everything pre-structured to do good work, this isn't the role.

What you’ll be doing:

• Develop and maintain firmware for various hardware components;
• Debug system-level issues across multiple stack layers from kernel to application and drive firmware/software code optimizations;
• Understand software components from multiple partner teams, lead the integration of those components into an unified product code base;
• Develop and maintain Yocto Project-based Linux distributions (e.g., Torizon OS);
• Customize existing Yocto layers, implement drivers and system configurations;
• Design and implement firmware unit testing and configure CI pipelines;
• Participate in design reviews, providing feedback and suggesting improvements to enhance hardware system performance and reliability;
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation.

What you’ll bring to the table:

• Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Software Engineering; 3-5 years of experience in Embedded Software and Systems development;
• Proficient in Python and C/C++ applied at application level; Solid understanding of real-time embedded systems and OS (e.g., Embedded Linux, Yocto-based OS);
• Experience in distributed systems, microservices architectures and Docker;
• Experience with Django, FastAPI, Flask or similar for REST API development;
• Experience with Firmware unit testing; Familiar with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN);

It would be great if you would also have:

• Basic awareness of cloud computing architectures;
• Experience troubleshooting hardware issues and providing technical support;
• Familiarity with IoT and communication protocols (e.g., MQTT, 4G L TE, Nb-IoT);
• Familiarity with AWS services (especially IoT Core and S3).
