Fortil, an international engineering and technology consulting group, seeks an Embedded Linux Developer to join a collaborative R&D environment. You will drive the full lifecycle of embedded solutions, from design to testing, across ARM/PowerPC platforms.

The role requires 2–5 years of embedded Linux experience, strong knowledge of Linux user and kernel space, and the ability to work from an office 2 days per week in Porto or Paço de Arcos. Portuguese or English communication is essential.

• 2–5 years of professional experience in embedded Linux development.
• Experience with user space and kernel space Linux development.
• Experience with device drivers and Linux PREEMPT_RT.
• Knowledge of Yocto Project or OpenEmbedded.
• Knowledge of networking protocols and topologies.

• Willingness to go to the office 2 times per week (Porto or Paço de Arcos).

What we are looking:

An Embedded Linux Developer (2–5 Years of experience) to join a collaborative and dynamic R&D environment. You will work across the complete development cycle of embedded solutions, from design and implementation to integration and testing.

What you’ll do:

• Generate Linux operating system images for embedded devices.
• Develop and adapt device drivers.
• Port Linux to ARM and PowerPC-based platforms.
• Work across Linux user space and kernel space.
• Configure networking and support system integration.
• Participate in design, development, debugging, and testing activities.

Must-haves:

• 2–5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Knowledge of embedded Linux development in user space and kernel space.
• Experience with device drivers and Linux PREEMPT_RT.
• Knowledge of Yocto Project or OpenEmbedded.
• Knowledge of communication networks, protocols, and topologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to communicate professionally in Portuguese or English.
• Ability to go to the office 2 times per week, either in Porto or Paço de Arcos.

• GCC toolchains and cross-compilation.
• FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or another RTOS.

• Embedded cybersecurity, including certificates, secure protocols, OpenSSH, OpenLDAP, TPM, encryption, and firewalls.
