Job description

At AdvanceWorks, we learn together, grow together, and have fun together. And we do all this while creating great software solutions for clients across many industries and geographies.

We are constantly challenging ourselves and each other to use the latest technologies and the best methodologies and make sure we walk the talk.

About the project

You will join IT projects in road operations, working on a product that supports this operational area. The work sits where technology, business needs and day-to-day operations meet, so delivery has to account for all three.

The project brings together a portfolio of IT initiatives that involve technical teams, business areas and external suppliers. Keeping them aligned with the organisation’s strategic goals takes clear planning, steady follow-up and well-structured communication with stakeholders and management.

The context also includes a significant organisational transformation. The team is already in place, and the next step is to give it more structure, execution discipline, well-defined processes and new ways of working. This is a demanding environment where some resistance to change is likely, and leading the team through that change is a central part of the job.

This role is neither about maintaining the status quo nor about administrative project tracking. It is about leading delivery and helping an existing team change how it works, in a way that lasts.

What will be your role

We are looking for a Senior IT Delivery Manager with a strong technical background, a focus on delivery, and the leadership needed to drive change. You will coordinate, monitor and deliver IT projects and initiatives within the Atlas product, keeping technical teams, business needs and strategic goals aligned.

Your day-to-day work will include planning and following up on initiatives, managing risks, dependencies and blockers, and making sure milestones, budgets and delivery goals are met. You will be the link between technical teams, business areas and suppliers. You will also give stakeholders and management clear, structured reporting and run steering meetings and other decision forums.

Beyond managing delivery, you will bring new working practices into an existing team. That means strengthening accountability, follow-up and execution discipline, and helping the team adopt new processes step by step. Doing this well calls for maturity, resilience, assertiveness and the ability to influence people, often without direct hierarchical authority.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Planning, coordinating and monitoring projects and initiatives across the IT portfolio.
  • Ensuring that deadlines, milestones, budgets and delivery goals are met.
  • Identifying and managing risks, dependencies and operational blockers.
  • Providing structured reporting to stakeholders and management.
  • Keeping regular, clear communication with stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Preparing, running and following up on steering meetings and decision forums.
  • Coordinating technical teams, business areas and suppliers.
  • Bridging technology and business by understanding technical challenges and turning them into clear priorities and decisions.
  • Setting priorities and guiding teams towards the delivery goals.
  • Continuously improving project management and delivery processes.
  • Introducing new working practices that strengthen accountability, follow-up and execution discipline across the team.
  • Bringing more structure and process to an existing team as part of a wider organisational transformation.
  • Managing change and any internal resistance, so that new practices and processes are adopted step by step.
  • Managing conflicts and making decisions that keep initiatives moving.
  • Mobilising teams and stakeholders to make sure initiatives are delivered.
What should you bring to the team?
  • A degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Management or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing and delivering IT projects, ideally in complex, large-scale environments.
  • Proven experience in technology consulting and in managing projects across multiple clients.
  • A strong technical background that lets you understand technology challenges, talk with technical teams and connect technology with business.
  • Solid knowledge of project management, planning, portfolio management, execution control and reporting.
  • Familiarity with both traditional and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in functional leadership and in coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing stakeholders at different levels.
  • Hands-on experience changing processes, methodologies or ways of working, including where there is resistance to change.
  • The ability to make decisions, manage conflicts, influence teams and make sure initiatives are delivered.
  • Leadership and assertiveness to guide teams, set priorities and promote accountability.
  • Resilience and comfort in demanding environments that involve internal resistance and a need for transformation.
  • A strong focus on results, execution and problem-solving.
  • The ability to mobilise teams and stakeholders, even without direct hierarchical authority.
  • Pragmatism and autonomy to make decisions and put solutions in place without relying on fully defined structures or processes.
  • Experience with technology projects in mobility, transportation, infrastructure or road operations is a plus.
  • Experience overseeing the physical installation of equipment in the field, coordinating technical and operational teams, is a plus.
  • Experience implementing or improving governance and delivery models is a plus.
  • Availability to work in a flexible hybrid model in Lisbon.
What is in it for you
  • An amazing informal culture of smart, hardworking, and friendly people who support and care about each other.
  • A mentorship program from day one.
  • The opportunity to work with real-world operational data from tolling and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
  • The opportunity to work on large-scale data and cloud projects using modern technologies.
  • Formal training and certifications in data, cloud, and engineering excellence.
  • Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies.
  • A dynamic company where your ideas matter more than job titles.
  • Flexibility with responsibility.
  • A Rubber Duck to help you debug those tricky data pipelines.
