Yazaki Porto Technical Centre seeks a Component Engineer to design routing components for automotive wire harness systems. You will develop 3D models, create drawings, and ensure performance meets customer and production requirements.

Work closely with Product/Manufacturing Engineering, Suppliers, and Programs to deliver cost-effective, robust routing solutions across the product lifecycle.

Qualificações

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Advanced CAD skills and familiarity with CATIA/SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of EPLAN and electrical design is a plus.

Porto Technical Centre is the largest Yazaki global engineering services provider, that offers high‑tech product development capabilities, translating customer specific needs into efficient production concepts, while consolidating and developing EDS expertise across plants on the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. We are currently seeking high potential candidates to join us through Component Engineer team, reporting directly to the area supervisor.

Position Mission

Responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of routing components for automotive wire harness systems, including cable channels, grommets, clips, brackets, retainers, protectors, and movable routing solutions. Ensures that component designs meet customer requirements, functional performance, packaging constraints, manufacturing feasibility, cost targets, and quality standards throughout the product lifecycle.

Provides technical expertise in component engineering, collaborating with customers, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Suppliers, Tooling, and Program Teams to deliver robust, innovative, and cost‑effective routing solutions that optimize wire harness packaging, protection, retention, assembly efficiency, and vehicle integration from concept development through serial production

Design and Development
  • Prepare parts sketches for purchase requests to external contractors;
  • Calculate mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components, assemblies or systems;
  • Make recommendations for material selection, based on design objectives such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity and cost;
  • Design, modify designs or create design alternatives of three‑dimensional models of components, assemblies and systems to obtain the specified functional or operational performance or to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems, using computer‑aided design (CAD) software;
  • Create drawings for components, assemblies or systems including schematic, orthographic, or angle views, instructions and comments, using computer‑assisted drafting tools (CAD);
  • Set up prototype and test apparatus and operate test controlling equipment to observe and record test procedures, results, numerical or graphical data in order to make recommendations for changes in product or test methods;
  • Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of components, assemblies, systems and equipment;
  • Set up, conduct or request tests of components, assemblies, systems and materials under laboratory or operational conditions to determine characteristics such as performance, strength or response to stress, to ensure design quality, to investigate proposals for improving performance or to recommend design or material changes;
  • Consult other team members about the design, lay out, or detail of components, assemblies and systems to resolve design or other problems;
  • Speak with customer representatives to review and answer questions related to the components, assemblies and systems and perceive their needs;
Communication and Teamworking
  • Support and participate in relevant activities with component engineers and other functional units, local or international such as application engineering, product management, project management, production, supply management, quality or others and keep a good communication and information flow with them;
  • Support new businesses;
  • Proactive engineering approach to customer and understand its needs in order to meet and exceed their expectations;
  • Go to clients for project briefing, consultation, installation and closeout reviews;
Technical Direction
  • Prepare and present technical or project status reports;
  • Evaluate mechanical designs or prototypes for environmental impact;
  • Provide feedback to CAD Designers and Component Engineers on customer problems or needs;
  • Coordinate, verify and distribute all technical information;
Analytical & Problem Solving
  • Conduct failure, variation or root cause analysis, document results, and recommend corrective actions;
  • Solve problems in mechanical engineering fields;
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate faults;
  • Investigate and analyze failures or laboratory test results of components, assemblies and systems and compare with original drawings, specifications, design/test objectives, project instructions or procedures to diagnose causes of problems and develop solutions to meet form and function specifications using engineering skills;
  • Inspect drawings and return the erroneous ones to the CAD designer for correction;
Academic Background
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Technical Skills
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel (advanced level).
  • knowledge of CAD tools, electrical design software and fixture validation processes ((e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and electrical design tools (e.g., EPLAN)
  • Understanding of automotive engineering standards and product change management processes.
Languages
  • Advanced English (spoken and written) and/or German.
