Smartex in Porto, Portugal is seeking a Backend Engineer to build scalable backend services using Node.js for industrial applications. You will design robust REST APIs, manage SQL data models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable features on the factory floor.

The role focuses on performance optimization, testing (unit/integration), and adopting AI tooling to accelerate development while maintaining high quality and security standards.

Qualificações

• 4+ years software development experience and Backend development skills.
• Proficiency using AI tooling such as Claude Code or Cursor.
• Working experience with Node.js.
• Working experience with SQL databases.
• Experience implementing REST APIs.
• Experience writing unit/integration tests.
• Fluent in English.

Responsabilidades

• Write clean and efficient code for web applications.
• Monitor the performance of live apps and optimize them at the code level.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, rectify bugs, and enhance application performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
• Work with outside data sources and APIs.
• Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.
• Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.
