Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking an Expert Team Lead, SWE based in Portugal to lead a team of AI Tutors and drive high-quality data operations for advanced AI model development.

The role combines people leadership with hands-on software engineering and data labeling, requiring strong coordination with data managers and engineers in a fast-paced environment. You will own end-to-end quality, establish processes, monitor KPIs, and contribute to labeling, evaluation, and improvement efforts while supporting

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience leading teams in data labeling, annotation, AI training or evaluation.
• Experience building or contributing to scalable, high-performance software applications.
• Understanding of data quality metrics, annotation workflows and QA practices.
• Knowledge of AI concepts and how data influences model performance.
• Experience with coaching, training-program development and performance management.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end quality and delivery for data projects and supervise team output.
• Lead, coach, and manage a team of AI Tutors, including performance reviews.
• Participate in labeling, annotation, evaluation, and review activities.
• Establish QA processes, taxonomy standards, and evaluation criteria.
• Monitor KPIs and drive efficiency improvements across the team.
• Develop training materials and certification benchmarks, manage workflows.
• Collaborate with data managers and engineering to translate model requirements into labeling strategies.
• Foster a high-performance culture and communicate project status to stakeholders.
