Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer II for the Virtualization & Host Platforms Linux Performance team. You will help identify bottlenecks, automate processes, and improve observability across compute, kernel, and hardware interfaces while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will design, implement, and sustain scalable software and infrastructure, participate in on-call rotations, and drive performance investigations using modern tooling in a hybrid Linux environment.

Qualifications

• Expert level experience with Linux internals, system administration, and hardware concepts.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux kernel, OS tuning, and virtualization with KVM/QEMU.
• Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy software and infrastructure at scale.
• Development or SRE background in large scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and distribute changes to automation, software, services, and tools for the VHP team.
• Enhance VHP observability infrastructure to identify issues before customer impact.
• Work with new tooling and environments and automate where possible.
• Create tooling using Ansible or profiling to aid performance investigations.
• Build subject matter expertise across Compute components.
• Collaborate with support, operations and engineering to troubleshoot complex problems.
• Participate in on-call rotations and guide restoration of service-impacting issues.
