Job summary

Vonage is hiring backend engineers to build and maintain highly concurrent, distributed services in a cloud-based CPaaS environment. You’ll work on core domains, shape architecture, and ensure high reliability with robust testing and on-call support.

Strong Go or Java/Spring Boot experience, containerization, and database knowledge are essential. Familiarity with AWS/Kafka/Kubernetes and Terraform is a plus in a fast-growing team.

Qualifications

• Solid programming skills in Go (Golang) or strong experience with JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) and a desire to learn Go.
• Experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale.
• Experience with highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems.
• Experience with containerised applications.
• Experience building REST/HTTP based services.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis).
• Some experience contributing to architectural decisions within a team.
• Strong test suite design skills: Unit, Integration and Smoke tests.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain highly concurrent and distributed backend services.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and help shape technical decisions.
• Design, develop and test new features with a focus on quality and reliability.
• Profile and optimise system performance and diagnose issues.
• Support the release and documentation of developed features.
• Estimate effort required to develop and implement solutions.
• Contribute to coding standards and development processes.
• Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
