Job summary

Vonage is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and develop highly concurrent, distributed services on a cloud-native stack. You will own architectural decisions, collaborate across teams and help elevate the quality and reliability of our platform.

The role emphasizes Go and JVM expertise, containerised deployments, REST services and data stores like PostgreSQL and Redis. You’ll mentor juniors, participate in on-call rotations and drive performance improvements in a fast-growing CPaaS

Qualifications

• Strong programming and system design skills with Go or JVM technologies.
• Experience building enterprise-grade, scalable systems.
• Proficiency with highly concurrent, distributed architectures.
• Experience driving architectural decisions and coding standards.
• Experience with containerised apps and cloud-native environments.
• Familiarity with REST/HTTP based services and databases (PostgreSQL/Redis).
• Solid unit/integration/smoke testing design experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services with a focus on high availability.
• Own architectural contributions and drive technical decisions across teams.
• Lead performance optimisations and diagnose complex system issues.
• Design, develop and test new features with a high bar for quality.
• Support release and documentation of developed features.
• Define and champion coding standards and development processes.
• Mentor junior engineers within the team.
• Provide on-call support as part of an on-call rota.
