Job summary

Vonage is seeking an experienced senior backend engineer to design and develop highly concurrent, distributed services on a modern cloud-native stack. You will own architectural decisions, contribute to performance optimisations, and mentor junior engineers within the RNE group of Foundation Engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and maintaining enterprise-grade, scalable backend systems.
• Strong expertise in Go or Java/Spring Boot with a desire to work in Go.
• Proven track record delivering highly concurrent, distributed architectures.
• Experience with REST/HTTP services and database systems (PostgreSQL/Redis).
• Hands-on with containerised apps and cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes).
• Solid debugging, performance profiling and system optimisation skills.
• Ability to articulate complex technical problems clearly and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services with a focus on high availability.
• Take ownership of architectural contributions and drive decisions across teams.
• Lead performance optimisation efforts and diagnose complex system issues.
• Design, develop and test new features while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Support release and documentation of features; contribute to coding standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide on-call support as part of rota.
