Job summary

WP Engine in Poland is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to design and implement backend capabilities powering our global cloud infrastructure. You will work at the intersection of software engineering, distributed systems, and production reliability, owning services from design to observability.

Ideal candidates bring strong knowledge of Go or Python, experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and IaC, and a passion for scalable, resilient platforms.

Qualifications

• Backend services or web platforms with strong software fundamentals.
• Experience with cloud platforms and modern platform environments.
• Understanding distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Knowledge of security basics in cloud environments.
• Iterative, well-documented engineering with strong testing practices.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain backend services and platform capabilities.
• Develop and integrate APIs using established patterns.
• Work with relational data stores and data access patterns.
• Contribute to event-driven and asynchronous workflows with messaging and background jobs.
• Operate services across cloud and platform environments (containers, VMs, managed services).
• Use CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code to deliver changes safely.
• Leverage logs, metrics, and traces to diagnose production issues.
• Participate in design discussions, ADRs, RFCs, and code reviews.
