Job summary

WP Engine in Poznań, Poland, seeks a backend engineer to architect and implement cloud-scale services across our global platform. You will own services from design to observability, focusing on resiliency, asynchronous workflows, automation, and scalable architectures.

You will work with Go/Python and collaborate on APIs, data stores, and deployment pipelines using CI/CD, IaC, and cloud-native tools. The role emphasizes production reliability and cross-team impact.

Qualifications

• Backend Engineering: Solid software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience building backend services or web platforms.
• Cloud & Platform Engineering: Experience with public cloud or modern platform environments; GCP or AWS is valuable.
• Distributed Systems & Architecture: Understanding distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• DevOps & Observability: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and monitoring.
• Security: IAM, authentication/authorization fundamentals, cloud security basics.
• Engineering Practices: SOLID, automated testing, and technical documentation.
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Using modern AI tools to accelerate implementation while maintaining ownership.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain backend services and platform capabilities.
• Develop and integrate APIs using established service patterns.
• Work with relational data stores and ensure reliable data access and service integration.
• Contribute to event-driven and asynchronous workflows and background processing.
• Run and support services across cloud and platform environments using containers, VMs, and other runtimes.
• Utilize CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code to deliver changes safely and repeatably.
• Use logs, metrics, and traces to diagnose production issues.
• Participate in design discussions, ADRs, RFCs, and code reviews.
