Job summary

WP Engine is seeking a Backend Platform Engineer to architect and implement backend capabilities that power our global cloud infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, distributed systems, and production reliability, owning services from design to observability.

You will work with Go/Python, cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, and CI/CD workflows, focusing on resiliency, asynchronous processing, automation, and scalable systems across our platform.

Qualifications

• Solid software engineering fundamentals and backend service experience.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and distributed systems.
• Practical knowledge of CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
• Understanding of security basics for cloud and services.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain backend services and platform capabilities.
• Develop and integrate APIs using established service patterns.
• Work with relational data stores and data access patterns.
• Contribute to event-driven and asynchronous workflows, including message-based processing.
• Own defined areas of work and collaborate on broader architectural decisions.
