Peloton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead an agile team designing and building scalable microservices powering core features across bikes, tread, and digital platforms. You will mentor juniors, collaborate with TPM and Product, and deliver high-availability APIs with robust testing and monitoring.

The role emphasizes performance optimization, architecture leadership, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, international growth environment.

Qualifications

• MS or BS in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics.
• 6+ years of software development in high-performance backend systems.
• Expertise in Kotlin, Python, or similar languages.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot, Bottle/Gunicorn, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Mongo).
• Hands-on with Elasticsearch query optimization and scaling.
• Experience with caching systems such as Memcached, Redis.
• Experience with REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
• Proven ability to work in high growth, fast-paced environments.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization.
• Experience with AWS services and cloud design.
• Experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins.
• Observability tools such as Datadog.
• Strong API design, security and performance optimization.
• Production support, incident response, troubleshooting distributed systems.
• Cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and QA.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and operation of scalable microservices.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with TPM and Product.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code.
• Architect reusable components and patterns across teams.
• Scale services to meet business and product needs.
• Use monitoring, profiling, and caching to remove bottlenecks.
• Lead architecture discussions and design reviews.
• Develop standards for reusable components across teams.
• Champion CI/CD, test automation, logging and monitoring.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
• Partner with Product, Design, and QA as domain expert.
