Our client - an international renewable energy group with a fast-expanding portfolio of onshore wind, solar PV and battery storage projects in Poland, backed by strong institutional shareholders.
Renewable projects are won or lost on how they are financed. We are looking for the finance professional who will hold three things at once for our client's Polish operations: the relationship with banks, investors and lenders that brings projects to financial close; the controlling that tells the business what each project is actually worth; and an accounting and reporting function that stands up to group, auditor and lender scrutiny. The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer in Poland and works closely with Group finance abroad.
Responsibilities
Financing, investors and banks
- Leading the search for and structuring of project financing, from first term sheet to financial close.
- Running the day-to-day relationship with lending banks, institutional investors and financing partners.
- Building and challenging the financial models behind each project, and testing the assumptions others take for granted.
- Shaping the capital structure of the Polish entities and driving down the cost of financing.
- Preparing financial material for due diligence, refinancing and transaction processes, and steering the workstream on the company's side.
- Supporting the CEO on investment decisions, business cases and M&A opportunities.
Controlling
- Owning budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow planning across the project portfolio.
- Tracking project profitability and capex against plan, and flagging deviations before they become expensive.
- Turning figures into decisions: clear, timely reporting to management and to Group finance.
- Setting up the controlling framework, KPIs and tools - including ERP - for a portfolio that is still growing fast.
Accounting, tax and reporting
- Supervising statutory accounting for the Polish entities and the quality of the closings.
- Delivering group reporting under IFRS, on time and audit-proof.
- Managing tax compliance, transfer pricing and the relationship with tax advisors and auditors.
- Overseeing the accounting team and external providers, and tightening processes as volumes increase.
Requirements
- Degree in finance, accounting or economics; ACCA, CIMA or a Polish audit qualification is welcome.
- At least 10 years in finance, including 5 in a management role - renewable energy, infrastructure or another capital-intensive sector preferred.
- Hands-on experience of project finance: structuring, negotiating with banks, and closing.
- Proven track record with institutional investors and lenders, ideally in an international group.
- Solid command of controlling: budgeting, forecasting, project profitability, cash management.
- Sound knowledge of Polish accounting and tax, and of consolidated reporting under IFRS.
- Familiarity with transfer pricing and with reporting into a foreign parent company.
- Comfortable moving between a bank negotiation in the morning and a closing review in the afternoon.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills, and the ability to give a straight recommendation rather than a spreadsheet.
- Experience leading a small finance team and working with external providers.
- Polish at native level, English at C1 minimum; a further European language welcome.
We offer
- A finance role with genuine scope: financing, controlling and accounting in one hand, not three separate jobs.
- Direct exposure to the CEO, to Group finance abroad and to the company's investors and banks.
- Freedom to shape the finance function and its tools as the portfolio expands.
- Attractive remuneration with a performance-based bonus; terms agreed individually.
- B2B or employment contract, and a flexible, partly hybrid working model.
- A Warsaw base, with travel to project regions and to Group headquarters in Western Europe.
- Work that visibly advances the energy transition in one of Europe's most dynamic renewable markets.
