Job summary

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you embed with a customer’s team, understand how its business works and take responsibility for measurable customer outcomes.

You will collaborate with business users, engineers and our central factory team. You will turn requirements into working software, connect APIs and databases, and guide adoption

At Disrupt, we combine hands-on engineering, AI tools and a disciplined delivery method to help teams build and improve software. Our software factory connects business context, specifications, implementation and verification. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will embed with a customer's team, understand how its business works and take responsibility for measurable customer outcomes. You will work with business users, engineers and our central factory team. What you learn in each engagement should improve the tools and methods used in the next.

What you'll do

• Discover the right problem: Map the workflow, decision owners, data, dependencies and constraints.
• Agree a worthwhile customer outcome, its baseline and how progress will be measured.
• Build and integrate: Turn requirements into working software. Connect APIs, databases and third-party systems; adapt to unfamiliar codebases and work across the application stack as needed.
• Earn the customer's trust: Run working sessions, explain technical choices clearly and contribute as part of the team. Understand organisational dynamics and help people adopt a better way of working.
• Make delivery repeatable: Capture business rules, decisions and specifications. Keep them connected to implementation and acceptance evidence so others can understand and continue the work.
• Follow through after launch: Verify the result against the agreed outcome, investigate failures and support adoption. Document how the system operates, train users and respect customer access and data boundaries.
• Improve the factory: Identify recurring friction and turn it into reusable integrations, tools or delivery patterns with the central team. Bring back evidence that helps shape product priorities.
• Exercise judgement: Balance customer needs with sustainable delivery. Make trade-offs visible, challenge unrealistic commitments respectfully and surface blockers early

What you'll bring

• Proven software delivery: You have built and supported software used by real people. You can explain your own contribution, the decisions you made and how you verified the result.
• Engineering breadth: Strong full-stack foundations and confidence with APIs, databases and application logic. You can debug unfamiliar systems and learn the technology a problem requires.
• Practical AI fluency: Experience using coding agents, LLM applications or AI-enabled workflows. You can inspect, test and troubleshoot the output, and recognise when a simpler approach is better.
• Obsession with customer outcomes: You keep the customer's business result at the centre of decisions. You define success, measure progress and follow through until the software delivers value in use.
• Systems thinking: You connect the dots across people, processes, data and technology. You trace root causes, dependencies and downstream effects before deciding what to change.

Useful experience

Customer-facing delivery in forward-deployed, solutions, implementation, founding engineering or technical consulting roles. Enterprise integrations, regulated environments, or software that must operate within complex access and data constraints. Python or TypeScript, cloud deployment, agent integrations such as MCP, or experience turning specifications into verified software. You enjoy moving between customer conversations and implementation, taking responsibility through adoption, and making repeated work easier for others.
