Disrupt.com is a venture builder that partners with ambitious entrepreneurs to ignite growth and innovation in their businesses. With a focus on transformative technologies and innovative business models, Disrupt.com provides more than just financial backing.
The Group typically partners with founders at a very early stage, helping them achieve product-market fit and power through the first point of scale. Disrupt.com brings in capital and counsel, but more importantly, the Group brings its conviction. Its unique approach includes strategic guidance, operational expertise, and a network of industry experts, providing startups and businesses with the resources necessary to achieve success.
About the Role
We’re looking for an Art Director with expert-level UX and UI craft. Someone who can set the visual direction for Disrupt.com and its ventures, then go into Figma and build the thing at production quality.
You’ll own how the Group looks across brand and product: identity systems for new ventures, campaign art direction, websites, interfaces, design systems, pitch material and everything shown on a screen. You should be able to take a flow from research through wireframe to a high-fidelity, developer-ready interface that holds up in usability testing.
You’ll work in a pair with the Senior Copywriter, concepting together from the first conversation, then partner with product managers, engineers and venture founders through build and launch.
This role suits someone who has shipped inside a startup or a product team and has also experienced agency environments, so they can hold a craft standard while moving fast.
Expectations from the Role
- Own the Visual System: Define and maintain the visual language for Disrupt.com and its ventures covering typography, colour, layout, photography, illustration and motion, then keep it coherent
- Expert UX Craft: Lead user flows, information architecture, wireframes and prototypes grounded in real user problems, then validate decisions through testing rather than preference.
- Expert UI Execution: Design high-fidelity interfaces in Figma to production standard, including responsive behaviour.
- Design Systems: Build and maintain component libraries, tokens and documentation so that design scales across teams without drifting.
- Art Direct Campaigns: Set and hold the creative direction for launches and campaigns across digital, social, video, out of home and event, from concept through final asset.
- Concept in Pairs: Develop campaign platforms with the Senior Copywriter, where the visual idea and the line are built together and presented together.
- Venture Brand Building: Create brand identities for new ventures from a blank page, including logo, system, guidelines and the first product surfaces.
- Partner with Engineering: Produce clear handoff specs, review builds against the design, then work with engineers so that what ships matches what was approved.
- Motion and Content: Direct motion, video and photography, either hands‑on or through freelancers and production partners, while keeping the output on system.
- Manage Partners: Brief and direct freelancers, studios and production agencies, with clear standards, budgets and deadlines.
- Tech‑Enabled Design: Use AI and modern design tooling to explore, prototype and produce faster, while keeping taste and quality control with the human.
- Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work with brand, product, growth, PR and venture teams so that brand expression and product experience stay one thing.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5 to 8 years of art direction or senior design experience, gained in a startup, an in‑house product team or an agency. A mix of those environments is preferred.
- Expert‑level UX and UI knowledge, demonstrated by interfaces that shipped and are still in use.
- Mastery of Figma, including component architecture, variants, auto layout, variables and prototyping.
- Experience building or owning a design system that other designers and engineers used day to day.
- A portfolio that shows both sides: brand and campaign work with a real idea in it, plus product work with real usability behind it.
- At least one brand identity built from scratch and applied across product, web and campaign.
- Comfortable with responsive and cross‑platform design across web, iOS and Android conventions.
- Fluency with motion tooling such as After Effects, Rive or Figma prototyping, plus the ability to direct video and photography shoots.
- Confident presenting and defending creative work to founders and executives, open to changing your mind when the argument is better.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design, Fine Arts or a related field. A portfolio strong enough to make the degree unnecessary also counts.
Who You Are
- An inspiring designer with a point of view and the craft to back it, at both concept and pixel level.
- Equally at ease in a brand workshop and in a component library.
- Rigorous about detail. Spacing, hierarchy and typography are decisions you can easily explain and inspire others with.
- A systems thinker who can still make a single striking image when the brief calls for one.
- A self‑starter with founder energy.
- Collaborative with writers, strategists, engineers and founders, comfortable being challenged in the room.
- User‑led rather than trend‑led, though fluent enough in current visual culture to know what looks dated.
- Fast when speed is the right call and slow when quality is, with the judgment to tell which situation you are in.
- Tech‑curious and fluent with AI tools, using them to widen exploration rather than to replace judgment.
