VoltX Energy seeks a Technical Support SME (Electrical Engineer) to back our solar and storage installations in Australia. You’ll assess feasibility, design solar layouts per AS/NZS standards, and support sales with clear, accurate technical guidance.
The role requires attention to safety and compliance, with strong English communication and practical design experience. Fresh graduates welcomed with relevant academic standing.
As a Technical Support Engineer at VoltX Energy, you are the technical backbone behind every solar and battery installation we deliver across Australia. You assess whether a customer's home can safely and compliantly take a battery, design solar arrays that make the most of a customer's roof, and act as the technical safety net for our sales team when a conversation needs more than a sales answer.
Your work is grounded in Australian electrical and solar standards — specifically AS/NZS 5139 (battery safety) and AS/NZS 5033 (PV array installation) — and it directly determines whether a job is safe, compliant, correctly priced, and fit for the customer's home. In this role, accuracy matters more than speed: a mistake in technical sales for solar batteries is costly, both for the customer and for VoltX.
Assess customer properties for battery installation feasibility in line with AS/NZS 5139—switchboard space and phase (1P/2P/3P), battery location clearances, cable run distances, and rebate documentation.
Identify site specific cost factors (cable runs, travel distance, site access) that inform accurate, fit for purpose pricing for each customer's home.
Design customer ready solar array layouts in line with AS/NZS 5033, balancing electrical requirements (inverter MPPT and string configuration), roof geometry, and cost efficiency.
Produce clear, buildable designs that installers can execute without rework, and communicate the final design to the customer for approval before installation.
Provide real time technical support to sales advisors and customers by phone, email, SMS, and Microsoft Teams from quick clarifying questions to full technical call take overs for complex enquiries.
Translate technical and compliance detail into clear guidance that helps the sales team close deals accurately, without over promising on what a system can do.
Escalate site or design issues that fall outside standard parameters to the Technical Sales Supervisor rather than guessing.
Contribute to internal checklists and documentation as standards, products, or pricing change.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering (BS EE / BS ECE).
Working understanding of — or genuine willingness to learn in depth — Australian electrical and solar standards, particularly AS/NZS 5139 (battery safety) and AS/NZS 5033 (PV array installation).
Strong attention to detail. This role directly affects safety, compliance, and cost, so small mistakes are expensive ones.
Clear written and verbal English communication, comfortable explaining technical detail to a non-technical audience.
Prior experience in the solar or battery energy storage (BESS) industry, particularly in the Australian market.
Familiarity with GreenSketch and Pylon (solar/PV design software) is preferred but not required — training is provided.
A PRC licence (Registered Electrical Engineer) is an advantage but not required.
Fresh graduates are welcome to apply, particularly those with Latin honors, scholarships, or other marks of strong academic standing.
