Job summary

York Hamilton Corporate Partners is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and quantity take-offs for steel fabrication and installation projects. You will interpret engineering drawings and use Tekla or similar 3D modeling tools to support competitive bids.

The role involves maintaining cost libraries, exporting take-offs to Excel, collaborating with project managers and engineers, and delivering high‑quality estimates on time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Drafting or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in construction or structural steel estimating or support roles.
• Proficient in Tekla Structures and/or other estimating/take-off software.
• Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes and materials.
• Excellent ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and building structured cost breakdowns.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate cost estimates for structural steel works using Tekla or similar tools.
• Interpret and analyse architectural/structural drawings, specs and documents.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and drafters to align estimating outputs.
• Export quantity take-offs and cost estimates to Excel or templates.
• Review drawings to identify scope, materials, fabrication requirements and risks.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost history and unit rate libraries.
• Participate in tender reviews and assist with final bid submissions.
• Ensure estimates meet timelines and quality standards.
• Support post-tender clarifications and negotiations if needed.
