The Asian Institute of Maritime Studies is seeking a Psychometrician/Guidance Associate to join our student support and development team. This is a full-time position based in Pasay City, Metro Manila. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the psychological and academic wellbeing of our maritime students, ensuring they receive comprehensive guidance and assessment services that facilitate their personal growth and professional development. This position is integral to our commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
Administering, scoring and interpreting psychological and psychometric assessments to evaluate students' cognitive abilities, personality traits, aptitudes and emotional wellbeing
Conducting individual and group guidance sessions with students to address academic concerns, career development, personal issues and social adjustment
Developing and implementing guidance programmes and workshops tailored to meet the specific needs of maritime students
Maintaining comprehensive student records and documentation in accordance with institutional policies and confidentiality requirements
Collaborating with academic faculty and other support services to identify at-risk students and develop appropriate intervention strategies
Providing crisis support and referral services for students experiencing psychological or emotional distress
Conducting vocational counselling and career guidance to assist students in aligning their studies with maritime industry career pathways
Participating in student orientation programmes and induction activities to familiarise new students with available support services
Maintaining accurate records of assessment results and counselling sessions for institutional tracking and evaluation purposes
Staying current with developments in psychometric testing, guidance practices and maritime industry requirements
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or a related field; a Master's degree in any of these disciplines is preferred
Professional certification or licensure as a Psychometrician, Counsellor or Guidance Counsellor, or current eligibility for such certification
Demonstrated expertise in administering, scoring and interpreting psychological and psychometric assessments
Strong counselling and active listening skills with the ability to establish rapport with diverse student populations
Knowledge of student development theories, mental health issues and crisis intervention techniques
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Filipino is advantageous
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work ethically within professional guidelines and institutional policies
Strong organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple cases and prioritise effectively
Experience working in educational settings, particularly with maritime or vocational students, is highly valued
Compassion, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting student wellbeing and success
Proficiency with computer systems and data management software
