WHAT IS A/AN PAYROLL & HRIS SPECIALIST (WORKDAY)?
We're looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to help run accurate, compliant payroll for a workforce of 1,000+ employees across multiple U.S. states and global locations. This organization has completed (or is completing) its move to Workday as the payroll system of record — you'll work primarily in Workday, with strong, current Workday experience a must.
WHAT WILL BE YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES?
Process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll across multiple states and global locations in Workday
Manage garnishments, wage verifications, and payroll compliance
Audit and reconcile PTO accruals, deductions, and related balances
Ensure commissions, incentives, and bonuses are paid accurately and on time
Own the timekeeping system for hourly employees and run recurring/ad hoc payroll reports
Support Workday configuration, testing, data validation, and implementation work
Partner with HR, Finance, and business stakeholders to continuously improve payroll accuracy and process
Mentor teammates through system updates and process changes
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
5 years of hands-on payroll experience, including multi-state and international processing
Strong, current experience with Workday — this is a must-have for this role right now
Advanced Excel skills — VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, complex formulas, reconciliations
Working knowledge of payroll tax rules across federal, state, local, and pension contexts
Sharp attention to detail and a reconciliation-minded approach to your work
Discretion in handling confidential data, and fluent English
Workday implementation experience within a global organization
Experience acting as a Workday/payroll systems SME
Background leading or contributing meaningfully to a Workday implementation project
Prior ADP experience (Celergo a plus) — helpful legacy-system context, not required day-to-day
Payroll certification
Genuine ownership of payroll systems and process improvement, not just execution
Direct, cross-functional exposure to HR, Finance, and business leadership
A front-row seat (and real input) on a live Workday rollout
Opportunity to mentor and shape process as the payroll function scales
