Job summary

Black & White Engineering Limited in Manila seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support design, review and technical standards for complex mechanical systems on hyperscale/data centre projects.

Based in Manila, you will work with a global engineering team, providing calculations and contributing to BIM while ensuring compliance with international codes and client specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Licensed Mechanical Engineer status preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in multidisciplinary design consulting.
• Data centre design experience is an advantage.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, HAP, Navisworks, Pipeflo, Bluebeam.
• Knowledge of BS/US standards, CIBSE/ASHRAE.

Job description

As Mechanical Engineer within our Global Engineering Team (GET), you will support the design, review and technical standards of mechanical systems for complex engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications and regulatory requirements.

Based in our Manila office, you will support projects across our regions, reporting to the Principal Engineer, Associate Director and Manila-based Directors.

Design standards and technical governance

You will primarily ensure the review of Stage 2 and Stage 3 design development maintains our brand design standard, assisting in developing and maintaining company-wide technical standards, design guides and our technical knowledgebase.

Bid support and technical proposals

You will support the bid process, reviewing technical proposals to ensure they meet client requirements. You will support standardisation and consistency across our design processes.

Data centre design and test-fit layouts

You will study and prepare flexible test-fit layouts to meet multiple hyperscale requirements, enabling a seamless pivot between design scopes. You will prepare data centre site development plans that ensure efficient plant distribution, and help strengthen BIM standards and processes on test-fits.

Research and innovation

You will work with our Research and Development team to research and study the latest technologies and products, supporting technical decision-making across the business.

Engineering calculations and design delivery

You will perform mechanical engineering calculations and support the development of mechanical designs in line with project requirements and applicable standards.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Licensed Mechanical Engineer status is preferred.
• Proven experience working within a multidisciplinary design consulting firm for at least 5 years.
• Experience handling large-scale projects; data centre design experience is an advantage.
• Proficient in designing mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water systems, ventilation, cooling systems and other mechanical building services.
• Knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, HAP, Pipeflo, Navisworks and Bluebeam; experience with Revit and IESVE is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of British Standards, US Standards, CIBSE, ASHRAE and other relevant international codes and standards.
• Experience with data centre cooling and critical mechanical systems is an advantage, but not mandatory.
• Strong team player with good communication skills, comfortable working collaboratively within a global multidisciplinary engineering team.
