Job summary

Lotte-Gulermak-EEI Joint Venture is seeking a Materials Engineer to oversee selection, testing, and quality assurance of construction materials for infrastructure projects in the Philippines. You will ensure materials are reliable, safe, and fit for purpose, supporting project success.

Responsibilities include evaluating material properties, verifying certifications, coordinating with suppliers, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with DPWH, ASTM, ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction materials and quality control preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Investigate material degradation causes and propose corrective actions.
  • Advise on maintenance to enhance durability and longevity.

Job description

A Materials Engineer is responsible for selecting, testing, and ensuring the quality and performance of materials used in construction projects. Ensures that the materials used in construction projects are reliable, safe, and fit for their intended purpose, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify suitable materials based on project specifications and environmental conditions, choose appropriate construction materials.
  • Evaluate material properties assess factors such as strength, durability, cost, and sustainability of different materials.
  • Ensure that selected materials are compatible with other materials and construction methods used in the project.
  • Analyze and verify material certifications, test reports, and other documentation provided by suppliers.
  • Assist in assessing suppliers and manufacturers to ensure they can provide quality materials on time and within budget.
  • Evaluate material properties and ensure they meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Preparation and submission of Vendors and Materials approval request.
  • Oversee the quality of materials delivered to the construction site, ensuring compliance with project specifications, standards, and codes.
  • Check materials upon arrival to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Identify and address any material defects or inconsistencies, and work with suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Document all quality control inspections, test results, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Develop detailed material specifications for procurement teams to source the correct materials.
  • Track the performance of materials throughout the construction process and during the service life of the structure.
  • Investigate the causes of material degradation or failure and recommend corrective actions.
  • Advise on maintenance practices to enhance the durability and longevity of materials.
  • Ensure that all materials used meet local and international construction codes and regulations (e.g.,DPWH, AASHTO, ASTM, ISO, BS standards).
  • Ensure materials are handled, stored, and used according to safety guidelines to minimize risk on-site.
  • Advise construction teams on the proper use of materials in compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Work closely with structural, civil, and architectural teams to ensure that the materials used align with the design and construction requirements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with material suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Provide regular updates to QA/QC Manager on material status, test results, and any issues related to materials.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of vendor and material acceptance register, material specifications, test results, certifications and approvals.
  • Compile reports on material performance, test outcomes, and any issues or recommendations related to material quality.

Minimum Requirement

  • - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • - A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in construction materials and quality control or a related field is preferred. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects, including railways, buildings, roads, andutilities, is highly advantageous.
  • - Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and quality standards.
  • - Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • - Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • - Effective communication skills for collaboration with project teams and subcontractors.
  • - Proficiency in using construction quality control software and tools.
