The Legal Business Partner (MTerra Solar) will lead all legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. This role is critical in ensuring the company’s operations, projects, contracts, and governance frameworks comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards across the renewable energy sector.
The position requires strong expertise in infrastructure/energy law, contracts, regulatory compliance, and risk management, with the ability to support business growth while protecting the company’s legal and ethical interests.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Strategy & Advisory
- Act as the principal legal advisor to senior management and and compliance matters
- Develop and implement the company’s legal strategy aligned with business objectives
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across projects and operations
Contracts & Commercial Matters
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts including EPC agreements, PPAs, land acquisition/lease agreements, O&M contracts, vendor and supplier agreements
- Ensure contracts adequately protect MTerra Solar’s commercial and legal interests
- Support project teams during bidding, tendering, and execution phases
Regulatory & Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including renewable energy policies, environmental regulations, labor laws, and corporate governance norms
- Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and government policies impacting the solar and renewable energy sector
- Liaise with regulators, government authorities, and external counsel as required
Corporate Governance
- Oversee corporate secretarial functions, including board meetings, resolutions, statutory filings, and compliance with Companies Act and other applicable regulations
- Ensure strong governance frameworks and ethical standards across the organization
- Manage litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters
- Coordinate with external legal counsel and oversee case strategy, costs, and outcomes
- Proactively work to minimize disputes through risk prevention and early resolution
Qualifications
- Minimum 10–15 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in renewable energy, infrastructure, power, or EPC sectors
- Strong experience in contracts, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance
- Prior experience interacting with government authorities and regulatory bodies
- Proven leadership experience managing legal teams and external counsel
