Job summary

MGEN seeks a Legal Counsel to support solar project development in Gapan, Nueva Ecija. A JD and Philippine Bar are required, with 5–8 years in energy/infrastructure law preferred. Strong contract drafting and regulatory knowledge are essential.

You will oversee land acquisition, permits, and regulatory approvals, coordinating with DOE/ ERC/ DENR and LGUs; onsite presence is required and exposure to project finance is desirable.

Qualifications

• JD and bar in good standing with the Philippine legal system.
• 5–8 years of legal experience, preferably in energy, power, or infrastructure law.
• Proven track record with renewable energy projects or large-scale infra.
• Solid understanding of Philippine regulatory framework in energy.
• Experience handling land-related legal documentation is a plus.

• Lead and review EPC, supply, O&M, land lease, and service agreements.
• Oversee land acquisition, ROW, due diligence, and title verification.
• Ensure compliance with Philippine energy laws and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with DOE, ERC, DENR, NGCP, and LGUs for permits and submissions.
• Assist in dispute resolution, claims management, and negotiations.

Job description

The Legal Counsel supports the development and implementation of solar energy projects based in Gapan, Nueva Ecija. This is a project-based engagement ideal for a legal professional with strong experience in energy law, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure development.

The Legal Counsel will play a critical role in ensuring legal soundness across project development, construction, regulatory approvals, land acquisition, and commercial contracting activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide end-to-end legal support for solar energy project development and execution.

Lead and review contracts including EPC agreements, supply agreements, O&M contracts, land lease agreements, and service contracts.

Oversee land acquisition and right-of-way documentation, due diligence, and title verification.

Ensure compliance with Philippine energy laws, environmental regulations, and local government requirements.

Liaise with government agencies such as DOE, ERC, DENR, NGCP, and local government units.

Support permitting, licensing, and regulatory submissions.

Identify legal risks and provide mitigation strategies aligned with project timelines.

Assist in dispute resolution, claims management, and negotiations.

Coordinate with external counsel when necessary.

Provide legal advisory to project management and executive leadership.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree; member in good standing of the Philippine Bar.

Minimum 5–8 years of legal experience, with strong preference for energy, power, or infrastructure law background.

Demonstrated experience in renewable energy projects, project finance, or large-scale infrastructure development is highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of Philippine regulatory framework in the energy sector.

Experience handling land-related legal documentation is a plus.

Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.

Willing to be based in Gapan, Nueva Ecija (onsite presence required).
