Job summary

JPMorganChase offers an underwriting trainee program in the home lending underwriting team. You will complete a structured six-month curriculum focused on agency (conforming) or home equity underwriting, building knowledge in credit risk, income and asset analysis, and documentation standards.

Progression to a Credit Underwriter role depends on successful completion of all requirements, performance, and readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Willingness to complete the full six-month training program with required attendance, learning modules, and test cases.
• Analytical aptitude to interpret financial and credit-related information.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation quality.
• Ability to learn complex policies and regulatory requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn underwriting tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a structured learning environment.
• Willingness to work night shifts aligned with U.S. business hours and hybrid/onsite arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all required training sessions during the six-month program.
• Complete modules covering products, credit analysis, income calculation, asset review, and collateral documentation.
• Perform knowledge checks, exercises, simulations, and underwriting test cases on schedule.
• Review borrower and property documentation under supervision (income, employment, assets, liabilities, credit, appraisal, title).
• Identify gaps, inconsistencies, risk indicators, and required underwriting conditions with guidance.
• Apply underwriting guidelines and escalation procedures under supervision.
• Use underwriting systems and spreadsheet-based calculators.
• Participate in coaching sessions and readiness reviews for continuous improvement.
• Maintain attendance, professionalism, training engagement, and quality standards.
• Protect customer information and adhere to fair lending requirements.
• Complete lending authority assessment for progression to Credit Underwriter.
