About the role
The Distribution Center Shift Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day execution of inbound and outbound warehouse operations during assigned shifts, ensuring the timely and accurate movement of goods while achieving operational KPIs. The role manages manpower, truck scheduling, warehouse equipment, and dock operations to maximize productivity and maintain seamless distribution center performance. This position is accountable for ensuring shipment completion, inventory accuracy, system compliance, and adherence to warehouse safety and mechanized operational standards. The Shift Manager also serves as the primary point of escalation for operational issues, coordinating immediate resolutions, communicating risks to leadership, and ensuring smooth shift handovers.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure 100% completion of scheduled inbound and outbound products within the shift
- Manage manpower, trucks, and equipment to meet mechanized dock throughput
- Supervise unloading/loading of transfers from or to other DCs
- Confirm that all resources (people, trucks, equipment) are complete and functioning as designed
- Motivate team members through regular communication and recognition
- Resolve operational issues immediately to prevent disruption
- Communicate major issues and potential risks to the DC Lead
- Provide clear turnover to the next shift manager for smooth transition
- Ensure on-time and proper encoding of all DC movements in SAP S4HANA
- Maintain real-time inventory and transport visibility for dashboards
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
- At least 4-6 years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations, with supervisory or shift management experience preferred
- Strong background in inbound and outbound warehouse operations, dispatching, and dock management
- Experience handling manpower scheduling, truck coordination, and warehouse equipment utilization
- Knowledge of warehouse KPIs such as productivity, shipment completion, inventory accuracy, damages, and turnaround time
- Proficient in SAP S4HANA or other warehouse management systems (WMS/ERP)
- Familiarity with mechanized warehouse operations and inventory control processes
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and discipline team members when necessary
- Ability to resolve operational issues quickly and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and turnover management skills across shifts and departments
- Knowledgeable in warehouse safety, compliance, and audit documentation requirements
- Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, and holidays as required
- Experience in FMCG, retail, manufacturing, or distribution center operations is an advantage
