The Carrier Operations Specialist manages third-party carrier relationships, books freight loads, and oversees carrier onboarding to guarantee seamless in-transit execution. This position balances strategic capacity procurement with real-time operational coordination to ensure cost-effective, timely, and dependable transportation services. Key responsibilities include load coverage, rate negotiation, tracking shipments, and resolving operational discrepancies.
Assist with vetting third-party transportation providers and setting up carrier profiles within the RMIS system.
Build and maintain strong carrier relationships, identifying carrier lane capabilities, geographic service areas, and freight preferences.
Serve as the primary point of contact for daily carrier inquiries, escalating complex matters to sales representatives as needed.
Negotiate competitive rates and book carriers on assigned loads while meeting coverage requirements.
Track in-transit shipments daily, updating Transportation Management Systems (TMS) with accurate ETAs, pickup times, and delivery windows.
Proactively identify potential transit delays or operational issues and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders immediately.
Approve and issue EFS advances for carrier lumper fees, late fees, and manage accessorial charge processing.
Collect Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation promptly following load completion to support timely billing.
Follow operational procedures, cross-train across team functions, and collaborate with internal operations teams to maintain service quality.
1 to 3+ years of practical experience in freight brokerage, carrier coordination, logistics operations, or dispatching.
Strong knowledge of freight procurement, rate negotiation, and capacity sourcing.
Proven problem-solving ability with a strong customer service orientation in high-pressure scenarios.
High degree of organization, scheduling discipline, and attention to detail.
Ability to perform independently with minimal oversight while collaborating effectively within a team structure.
