Job summary

Swanson School in Auckland seeks an experienced RTLB (Primary and Intermediate, Years 1–8) / kura tuatahi resource teacher. You will work with educators, whānau and support networks to build capability and foster inclusive environments where young learners can participate, belong and thrive.

You will design, implement and monitor strategies with school leaders, kaiako, whānau and external agencies, guided by the HePikoruaframework to support learner success. Start date 26 February 2027.

Qualifications

• Fully registered NZ teachers with at least six years' experience preferred.
• Growth mindset and commitment to ongoing learning.
• Ability to work with Māori, Pacific peoples, and diverse North-West Auckland communities; additional language is an advantage.
• Willingness to undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching if not RTLB-qualified.
• Hold a full, clean driver’s licence and reliable vehicle (travel allowances provided).

We are looking for an educator who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with additionalneeds. Someone energised by challenge, who celebrates progress in all its forms, and believes lasting change comes from working alongside whānau, kaiako, schools and kura.

Join our team of 36 RTLB serving 56 primary, intermediate and secondary schools across West Auckland. Together, we strengthen inclusive practice, build educator capability, and create the conditions for every learner to participate, belong and thrive.

About the role

Working alongside educators, whānau and support networks, you will build capability and foster inclusive environments where young people can succeed. Working with school leaders, kaiako, whānau and external agencies, you will use a strengths-based approach guided by the HePikoruaframework to design, implement and monitor strategies that support learner success.

We are looking for

• Fully registered NZ teachers, with at least six years' experience preferred, a growth mindset, and commitment to ongoing learning.
• Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with Māori, Pacific peoples, and the many diverse communities of North-West Auckland. A strong understanding of and commitment to culturally responsive practice is essential. The ability to speak an additional language viewed as an advantage.
• Practical, adaptable team members with a healthy sense of humour.
• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with ability to provide feedback in a respectful and mana-enhancing manner. Open to receiving feedback as an opportunity for growth and learning.
• Comfortable using digital tools and systems, with willingness to develop new skills as required.
• Applicants not yet RTLB-qualified must be eligible and willing to undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching, with study leave provided.
• Hold a full, clean driver's licence and reliable vehicle (travel allowances provided).
