Job description

Love veneer and getting in front of customers? NZPG is looking for a Veneer BDM to grow our Prime veneer range.

14th October, 2026

NZ Panels Group | East Tāmaki, Auckland | Full-time, permanent

Know your crown cut from your quarter cut? Turn that veneer know-how into growth.

NZ Panels Group is a leading New Zealand supplier of interior products. Our brands, including Prime Panels, Bestwood, Dezignatek and Mercer, are specified in kitchens, joinery and commercial fit‑outs across the country. Our Prime veneer range, including Prime Natural, Prime Art and Prime Toitū with its NZ native species and Track my Tree traceability, is a category we are serious about growing.

We’re looking for a Veneer Business Development Manager to take it to more architects, designers, joiners and cabinetmakers.

About the role

This is a customer‑facing growth role. You’ll open new accounts, win specifications and turn them into veneer sales. You’ll be the go‑to veneer expert for customers and for our own sales teams.

Reporting to the Group Category Manager, you’ll work alongside our Category Managers, Architectural Consultants and Account Managers, customer services, and our manufacturing team in East Tāmaki. You’ll spend much of your week out with customers, on site and in showrooms, with national travel as needed.

What you’ll do

  • Grow the market: find and develop new veneer business with architects, interior designers, specifiers, joiners, cabinetmakers and builders.
  • Win specifications: present our veneer range, follow up leads and specifications, and convert them into orders.
  • Look after key customers: build long‑term relationships, understand what each customer needs and spot early signs of a slipping account.
  • Be the veneer expert: advise on species, cuts, matching, substrates and applications, and help resolve quality or remedial issues.
  • Train and support: run product training and CPD‑style sessions for customers and upskill our architectural consultants and account managers.
  • Bring back insight: share market trends, competitor activity and customer feedback with the Category team to shape range, pricing and new products.
  • Deliver results: meet veneer sales and margin targets, report on your pipeline and represent NZ Panels Group at industry events and trade shows.
  • Work safely: model our “Stop, Think, Act” approach to health and safety, on site and on the road.
About you

You know veneer, and you love getting in front of customers. You’ll ideally bring:

  • Hands‑on knowledge of timber veneer: species, cuts, leaf matching, panel layup and finishing.
  • Experience in the wood, joinery, cabinetmaking, kitchen, interiors or construction industry. A trade background with a move into sales is a real plus.
  • A track record in business or market development: you’ve found new customers, grown accounts and hit targets.
  • Confidence presenting to architects and designers, and talking shop with joiners on the workshop floor.
  • The ability to read a set of plans or a joinery schedule and spot where veneer fits.
  • Self‑motivation and good organisation, with sound CRM and Microsoft Office skills.
  • A full, clean NZ driver’s licence and the right to work in New Zealand.
What we offer
  • A role with real ownership and the backing of a well‑known NZ manufacturer.
  • Products you can be proud of, from NZ native veneers to award‑winning kitchen projects.
  • A competitive salary package with company vehicle, phone, laptop, and incentive scheme.
  • Working within a supportive, safety‑first team.
  • A base at our East Tāmaki site, close to the people who make the product.
