Job summary

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is seeking an organised administrator to support Ngā Whenua Rāhui and Hēteri-Ā-Nuku kaimahi in Gisborne or Napier. You will manage diaries, emails, travel arrangements, and documentation, helping the teams stay coordinated and responsive.

This full-time, permanent role offers flexible working arrangements, a collaborative environment, and opportunities to contribute to Māori land protection and mātauranga Māori.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an administrative role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning and organisational abilities.

  • Experience coordinating travel and meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain team systems and processes.
  • Provide admin support including diary and email management, planning and events.
  • Support team travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Prepare documentation including presentations and briefings.
  • Support taskforces, including minutes of meetings.
  • Coordinate fleet management at office sites.
  • Basic knowledge of budget management.
  • Establish and manage relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

Support our kaupapa of protecting the natural integrity of Māori land and preserving mātauranga Māori.

Full time, permanent role based in Gisborne or Napier with flexible ways of working.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

To succeed in this role, you will be focussed on providing support to the Pou Ngā Whenua Rāhui, Pou Hēteri-Ā-Nuku and the Ngā Whenua Rāhui and Hēteri-Ā-Nuku kaimahi. You will need to be a smart, tech-savvy operator with strong prioritisation, warm communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people to ensure the Pou and kaimahi you support are successful in their role.

Key responsibilities include:
  • administer and maintain team systems and processes
  • provide administrative support including diary and email management, planning and event management
  • support team members with travel and accommodation arrangement
  • preparing documentation including presentations, task assignments, reports and briefings
  • supporting taskforces, including taking minutes of meetings
  • coordinate fleet management at office sites
  • basic knowledge of budget management
  • establishing and managing relationships with key stakeholders externally and within DOC

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • proven aptitude in an administrative role
  • initiative and thoughtfulness
  • knowledge/understanding of Government is helpful but not essential
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • highly effective planning and organisational skills
  • strong customer service focus
  • expertise using the Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • knowledge and experience in planning and organising projects.
Desirable:
  • ability to speak or understand te reo is highly desirable
  • current full New Zealand driver's licence.

Salary: $65,590-$82,000, depending on skills and experience.

Eligibility: You must hold a valid New Zealand work visa that covers the duration of employment.
