Job summary

Health New Zealand in the West Coast region is seeking compassionate Support Workers to cover annual and sick leave. You will work under a Registered Health Professional to provide safe, high-quality and culturally respectful support that promotes dignity, independence and wellbeing.

You will help clients remain active in their own care, follow individual care plans, and collaborate with whānau and health professionals to improve outcomes in a culturally safe environment.

About the role

As a Support Worker, you will play an important part inhelping people remain active participants in their own care and continue livingfulfilling lives within their communities.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing safe, high-quality support in line with individual care plans
  • Supporting clients in a respectful, culturally safe and mana-enhancing way
  • Encouraging independence and participation in everyday activities
  • Promoting dignity, choice and quality of life
  • Following care plans, policies and organisational procedures
  • Working collaboratively with health professionals, clients and their whānau
  • Using technology effectively for communication and service administration
  • Participating in ongoing training and skills development
  • Identifying barriers and opportunities to improve access, experience and outcomes for clients
  • Contributing to inclusive, responsive and effective service delivery
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties as agreed with your manager

What you'll need
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2), or a willingness to undertake this qualification with support to progress through Level 3 and potentially Level 4
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Competency with Microsoft applications and similar software
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • It would be an advantage if you havePrevious caregiving or support work experience in the community, hospital or aged-care environment
  • Experience supporting people with complex or changing needs
  • An understanding of person-centred care and the importance of supporting people to maintain their independence
