Job summary

Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust – Swannanoa, South Island, is seeking a dedicated care assistant to support a client in their own home. You will provide all aspects of personal care, plus meals, household tasks, and laundry, helping the client progress toward person-centred goals.

The role requires reliability, a caring approach, and good judgment to enable independence, community access, and participation.

Week 1:

Monday: 8am-12pm

Tuesday: 8am-1pm

Week 2:

Saturday: 8am-11am

Sunday: 8am-1pm

Te mahi angitu - The opportunity

You will be supporting a client in their own home in Swannanoa. This role involves providing all aspects of personal care, including bowel and bladder care, passive movements, exercises, and supporting the client to work towards their person-centred goals.

You will also be responsible for meal preparation, household management, and laundry.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy, and committed to empowering the client to live as independently as possible. You will need to exercise good judgement while supporting the client to access their community, attend appointments, and achieve greater independence, inclusion, and quality of life following a spinal cord injury.

Our client is seeking an exceptional team member with whom they can build a genuine and authentic connection over time. The ideal candidate will have a good sense of humour, be enjoyable to be around, manage their time effectively, and feel comfortable around animals.

Due to operational requirements, preference will be given to candidates who live within 15 km of the service location (Swannanoa).

You will ideally have:

  • A willingness and ability to learn and follow care plans accurately
  • A genuine interest in supporting others
  • The ability to work in partnership with clients, whānau, and the wider support team
  • A person-centred approach that promotes independence, choice, initiation, and participation in everyday activities
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • A full driver's licence
  • A willingness to work within the mission, vision, and values of the organisation
  • Previous experience in support work advantageous but not essential and full training will be provided.
