Job summary

VNS Express 2026 Limited in Ashburton is hiring a Store Manager to lead daily operations of a busy dairy, food bar and takeaway store. You will determine product mix and stock levels, set service standards and manage purchasing, marketing, and pricing strategies to grow sales.

The role requires experience in retail/dairy/food hospitality management, with a NZQF Level 5 Diploma or equivalent (or 2+ years of relevant experience).

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Determine the store's product mix and stock levels, and maintain customer service standards across dairy, food bar and takeaway.
• Develop and implement purchasing and marketing plans, set retail prices for stock, food and beverage items.
• Promote and advertise products and services, including in-store promotions, to grow sales and build repeat customers.
• Serve customers, sell products and advise on choices and usage.
• Maintain accurate records of stock levels, daily takings, EFTPOS and cash reconciliations.
• Prepare and manage the store's operating budget, including labour, stock and overhead costs, and report on trading performance.
• Select, train, roster and supervise staff, and manage day-to-day staffing needs.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and liquor and tobacco sale regulations.

A busy, well-established dairy, food bar and takeaway store located in Ashburton, trading seven days a week. We are looking for an experienced and reliable Store Manager to lead the day-to-day running of the store and help us continue to provide great products and service to our local community.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Determine the store's product mix and stock levels, and set and maintain customer service standards across the dairy, food bar and takeaway offering.
• Develop and implement purchasing and marketing plans for the store, and set retail prices for stock, food and beverage items.
• Promote and advertise the store's products and services, including in-store promotions, to grow sales and build repeat custom.
• Serve customers, sell store products and food/beverage items, and advise customers on product choice and use.
• Maintain accurate records of stock levels, daily takings, EFTPOS and cash reconciliations, and other financial transactions for the store.
• Prepare and manage the store's operating budget, including labour, stock and overhead costs, and report on trading performance.
• Select, train, roster and supervise store staff, including Store Person and other team members, and manage day-to-day staffing needs.
• Ensure the store complies with all relevant health and safety, food safety, and liquor and tobacco sale regulations at all times.

Key Terms and Conditions

Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Hours of work: A minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week, rostered across the store's trading days (Monday to Sunday). The store trades from 5.00am to 6.00pm, 7 days a week, and this role requires weekend work(Saturday and Sunday) as part of the roster.
Pay rate: $28.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Minimum Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• A New Zealand Register (NZQF) Level 5 Diploma, or an equivalent qualification; OR
• A minimum of two years' relevant work experience in a retail, dairy, or food/hospitality management role.
