Job summary

Halter, New Zealand\'s fast-growing hardware-software-AI platform for farming, is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Platform team. You will own end-to-end cloud infrastructure, security, and AI-enabled tooling, collaborating with backend, ML, and data teams to raise velocity while maintaining reliability.

You\’ll scale AWS, improve observability, apply IaC and CI/CD, mentor teammates, and own on-call incidents.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and operating AWS at scale.
• Shipped meaningful platform or infrastructure work in production.
• Understand developer experience and have built golden paths or internal platforms.
• Treat security as a first-class part of platform engineering and harden cloud environments.
• Interested in how AI tooling can change engineering workflows and add leverage.
• Build observable, testable, and debuggable systems at scale.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
• Stay calm under pressure and mentor others through design conversations and reviews.
• Ambiguity-tolerant mindset with pragmatic decision making.
• Backend product development experience is a plus.
• A software engineering degree is nice to have, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Shape how Halter leverages AI tooling to accelerate development.
• Build tooling, guardrails, and golden paths to help engineers ship safely and quickly.
• Contribute to the technical direction for cloud infrastructure as Halter scales.
• Incorporate security into the platform via IAM, network policy, secrets management, and supply chain controls.
• Keep core compute and orchestration layer reliable at scale for farmers and ranchers.
• Advance observability and incident tooling; treat on-call as a signal, not a cost.
• Automate infrastructure management through IaC, CI/CD, and internal tooling.
• Contribute to cross-functional architecture discussions and establish maintainable platform standards.
• Mentor and grow engineers through design reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Be part of on-call rotation and participate in incident prevention.
